Accra: Mr James Kwesi Addison, Ghana’s first Internationally Certified Emotional Intelligence Master Coach, has stated that it is time every Ghanaian workplace ensures that no voice goes unheard. Mr Addison made the suggestion at the launch of a 100-page book titled ‘Voices Unmuted: Psychological Safety and Leadership in Ghanaian Work Culture’ in Accra.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event coincided with the Mid-Year Review Meeting of Glico Pensions, where Mr Addison facilitated a training on psychological safety. This event drew executives and staff of the Glico Group, focusing on teaching leaders to be committed to reshaping Ghana’s workplace culture. The book was dedicated to Mr Kennedy Asante Osei Esq, General Manager of the Despite Group of Companies, and Mrs Maame Dufie Acheampong-Kyei Obeng, Managing Director of GLICO Life.
Mr Addison, the author, mentioned that he was inspired by the encouragement he received earlier this year, when many obtained copies of his previous book, ‘Emotional Intelligence for Transformational Leadership and Management’, during a training session with GLICO Life in Accra. He emphasized that the new book is a call to action because psychological safety forms the foundation for trust, innovation, and leadership in workplaces, urging every Ghanaian workplace to ensure no voice goes unheard.
He added that the book is a timely reflection on leadership, workplace culture, and employee wellbeing within the Ghanaian context, rooted in life experiences and traditional values. It explores how Ghana’s cultural norms empower, limit, and shape the emotional environment of organizations, amplifying the silent frustrations and unspoken fears many workers face. The book offers a culturally-grounded pathway towards safer, more inclusive, and emotionally-intelligent workplaces.
Dr Francis Sapara-Grant, Chief Executive Officer of Glico Pensions, chaired the launch and received the first official copy, emphasizing the book’s relevance, which he said had come at a better time. He noted that Glico valued the well-being of their staff and recognized that innovation thrives only when people feel safe to share ideas without fear. Mr Addison, he said, had provided a resource that will guide leaders across Ghana.
Dr Sapara-Grant demonstrated his support by obtaining 50 copies of the book for distribution to the staff, ensuring that the message of ‘Voices Unmuted’ became part of the company’s leadership and development journey. Mr Benjamin Avickson, Chief Sales Officer of GLICO Life, congratulated Mr Addison on this milestone and appreciated him for dedicating his work to the Group, with a message of psychological safety that every leader in Ghana must embrace. ‘We remain committed to supporting initiatives that build trust, respect, and courage in Ghanaian workplaces,’ he added.
