Kadjebi: Mr Rashad Shaibu, the Kadjebi District Director of the Department of Food and Agriculture, has announced that the directorate has deployed only six agricultural extension officers. This deployment creates a challenging situation with a ratio of one extension officer to 5,000 farmers in the district.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Shaibu highlighted the significance of these officers during a meeting in Kadjebi in the Oti Region. The officers, recruited in 2019, are crucial in ensuring the district does not rely on a single staff member. They serve as an essential link between the farmers and the agricultural sector, providing critical information and techniques that help improve crop yields, manage pests, and promote sustainable farming methods.
Mr Shaibu emphasized the importance of the officers' presence in facilitating the sustainability of the agriculture sector. He appealed to the government for the deployment of more agricultural extension officers, stressing that their expertise is vital for farmers to access the necessary information to make informed decisions.
