Police Apprehend 16-Year-Old SHS Student for Unlawful Possession of Firearm

Tafo Pankrono: The Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command has apprehended a 16-year-old second-year boarding student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) for unlawful possession of a locally manufactured firearm.



According to Ghana News Agency, the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, at about 09:30 hours. A statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit revealed that school authorities discovered the firearm during a routine search of dormitories.



The statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs, noted that the student was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police for further investigations. During interrogation, the student disclosed that the weapon belonged to his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi.



As a result, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi was also taken into custody on Thursday, May 15, 2025, for additional questioning. Both the student and his stepfather have been granted police inquiry bail and are scheduled to report to the police on Monday, May 19, 2025, for further investigations.
