Accra: The MIHOSO International Foundation, a health-focused Non-Governmental Organisation, has partnered with health workers from the Dormaa East District Health Directorate in the Bono Region to administer the HPV vaccine to eligible girls in several basic schools.
According to Ghana News Agency, the NGO supported this initiative by working alongside health workers to vaccinate girls between the ages of nine and 14. Their efforts were concentrated in the Nsesereso-Nsuam Basic, Asuotiano Methodist Girls, and the Smart Child Academy Basic Schools.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the vaccination exercise at Asuotiano, Mr. Thomas Benarkuu, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MIHOSO, encouraged families to support the initiative by permitting their eligible girls to receive the vaccine. Mr. Benarkuu reassured the community about the safety and efficacy of the HPV vaccine in preventing cervical cancers and advised local schools to back the vaccination efforts.
Mr. Benarkuu emphasized the foundation’s dedication to aiding the country in achieving effective health outcomes and praised the schools and students for their active participation in the exercise. He stated that MIHOSO’s involvement aligns with their commitment to enhancing community health and vaccine awareness throughout the Dormaa East District.
Additionally, Mr. Benarkuu took the opportunity to educate students, teachers, and the wider community on the significance of both HPV and adult vaccinations.
