Anum: The Volta River Authority (VRA) has conducted a two-day Employee Volunteer Programme (EVP) at Anum Presbyterian Senior High School in the Asuogyaman District, engaging over 500 second-year students in career guidance and academic reinforcement.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative is part of VRA’s community engagement strategy and featured staff volunteers who facilitated sessions in various subjects such as Science, Technology, English, Mathematics, Government, History, Physics, Biology, and Elective Mathematics. Mr. John Chobbah, Principal Information and Publicity Officer at VRA, highlighted that the programme served as both a STEM bootcamp and a career guidance platform, aimed at helping students make informed academic and professional choices.
Mr. Chobbah noted that the objective was not to recruit for VRA, but to inspire students to excel in their chosen fields and contribute to national development. He emphasized that VRA employs professionals across various disciplines, including law, medicine, ICT, public relations, human resources, and finance. These professionals participated in classroom sessions to connect academic subjects with real-world careers.
Mr. Chobbah also advised students to remain focused and resilient, warning against distractions such as substance abuse and premature sexual activity. He stressed the importance of making wise choices for a better future.
Ms. RhodhaEnyonam Arthur, Principal of Community Relations at VRA, encouraged female students to aim for higher education and professional goals beyond early marriage. She emphasized that young girls could become leaders and professionals while balancing family life with career success through education.
Students described the programme as motivational. William OseiBonsu, a second-year student, shared that the sessions helped him grasp time management and career planning. He expressed newfound clarity in structuring his studies and selecting a course aligned with his dream of becoming a scientist.
The EVP is part of VRA’s broader youth empowerment initiatives, aimed at promoting mentorship, education, and professional exposure in its operational communities.
