Headmaster Advocates Parental Support in Cultivating Children’s Reading Habits

Toase: Mr. Zoyah Kojo Razi, Headmaster of Toase M/A Basic School in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has appealed to parents to cultivate the reading habits of their children. He emphasized the role of reading in improving academic performance and safeguarding individuals from drug abuse, wrong medication, and other social vices.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Zoyah addressed a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) general meeting at Toase, highlighting the importance of reading labels and instructions to avoid the use of expired drugs and related complications. He urged parents to purchase books, especially the Ghana Education Service (GES)-approved Beacon of Light literature, and encourage their children to read during leisure hours, noting its inclusion in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for 2025/2026.

The Headmaster also advised parents to supervise their children's studies, monitor homework and assignments, and be vigilant regarding their children's behavior and health, including the menstrual cycles of adolescent girls, to foster disciplined learning habits and prepare them for adulthood.

Mr. Zoyah stressed the necessity for parents to provide essential learning materials, sanitary pads, and canteen bowls to support the government's efforts in ensuring quality education. He expressed gratitude to parents, teachers, the School Management Committee (SMC), and other stakeholders for their contributions to the improved performance in this year's BECE.

The PTA meeting also addressed issues of discipline, academic seriousness, sports, punctuality, and other school activities in preparation for the upcoming academic term. Mr. Asenso Tawiah, Chairperson of the SMC, lauded the parents for their active participation and commitment to the school's development.
