Borae-kete-krachi: A tragic accident occurred on Saturday evening around 1830 hours on the Borae-Kete-Krachi highway in the Oti Region, when a Vision Transport bus travelling from Dambai to Wulensi fatally knocked a teacher riding a motorbike, killing him instantly. The incident happened near the village of Mempeasem in the Krachi West Municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, eyewitness reports indicate that two Vision buses were on the same route when one attempted to overtake the other and in the process, the overtaking bus collided with the teacher, who was riding from Gyato Akura towards Dambai. The impact killed him instantly.
Shockingly, the driver and conductor, along with the passengers, abandoned the scene. At approximately 2000 hours, a police patrol vehicle traveling from Dambai discovered the teacher’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood. The police quickly contacted the nearest station and proceeded to the scene for initial investigations.
Residents of Mempeasem, speaking to the Ghana News Agency, expressed grave concerns about the reckless driving habits of commercial bus operators along the route. ‘The way these bus drivers speed and ignore road regulations is very dangerous. They drive as though there are no rules,’ a resident lamented. They called on the Ghana Highway Authority, the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, and transport union leaders to intervene by educating drivers and enforcing road safety laws.
‘We are pleading with the authorities to regulate these drivers. If this continues, we may be forced to take the law into our own hands,’ another resident warned. The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Kete-Krachi morgue as investigations continue.
