Bleamezado: StarOil Ghana, an indigenous Oil Marketing Company (OMC), has commissioned an ultramodern Artificial Intelligence (AI) centre at Bleamezado in the Anloga Municipality of the Volta Region. Christened the ‘Dr. Leonard Yao Kaledzi Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence,’ the project, in partnership with Coral Reef Innovation Africa, marks a pioneering development in the Volta and Oti regions.
According to Ghana News Agency, the centre is valued at approximately GHC1,500,000 and was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, and Mr. Vincent Kwamitse Kaledzi, Board Chairman of StarOil Ghana. It is anticipated to benefit over 2,000 learners in the Shime area of the Anloga Municipality. During the event, Mr. Iddrisu praised StarOil Ghana and its partners for their commitment to advancing high-demand skills in Artificial Intelligence.
The minister emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s agenda to foster innovation and human capital investment. He also announced plans for a new Community Senior High School in the Shime area within two years, aiming to expand educational access in underserved regions.
Addressing the gathering, Torgbi Akporhor III, Paramount Chief of Bleamezado, highlighted the importance of AI in the evolving job market. He urged the youth in Shime to harness the centre’s resources to enhance their skills and prospects. The Paramount Chief stressed the role of technology as a transformative tool.
Mr. Philip Kwame Tieku, CEO of StarOil Ghana, explained that the AI centre is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts. He emphasized the need for Ghana’s educational system to adapt to rapid advancements in artificial intelligence to stay globally competitive. Mr. Tieku revealed plans to establish additional centres across the country, serving as Community Tech Hubs for out-of-school adults interested in learning AI.
Mr. Richard Anim, CEO of Coral Reef Innovations Africa, expressed gratitude to StarOil Limited for its support and reiterated the organization’s commitment to future collaborations in establishing more such centres.
