Accra: Relief and Aid International, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has awarded scholarships to 45 tertiary students across the country to enhance education and youth development. The scholarship initiative, themed ‘Beyond the Aid: Unveiling the Future,’ aimed to support existing educational programmes and promote access to quality education.
According to Ghana News Agency, the beneficiaries were pursuing various academic disciplines, including accounting, medicine, food and nutrition, nursing, political science, and agriculture. At a ceremony to commemorate the event in Accra, Madam Peggy Anna Naa Ayikailey Adamafio, the President and Founder of Relief and Aid International, emphasised the importance of civic responsibility in nurturing young people’s potential. She stated that it is crucial to ensure that the youth of today fully realise their potential and are afforded opportunities to bring about positive changes in their lives.
Dr Clement Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, lauded the scholarship program, noting that it complemented government initiatives such as the Free Senior High School and No Fee Stress programs. These initiatives aimed to achieve inclusive education and prepare Ghanaians for a knowledge-based economy. The initiative was well-received by traditional leaders and key stakeholders in the education sector, who lent their support and commended the organisation’s efforts.
The Queenmother of Dansoman emphasised the importance of rethinking traditional approaches to development, urging a shift beyond conventional age models to embrace innovative strategies for progress. She encouraged the scholarship beneficiaries to work hard, envisioning a future where she could praise their achievements. She also highlighted the value of paying it forward, encouraging the beneficiaries to support others in their pursuits and expressed gratitude to the scholarship program’s organizers and team for their impactful work.
