Sunyani: The life of a physically-challenged cobbler, believed to be in his 30s, ended tragically on Saturday when a private saloon car ran over him along the Sunyani-Abesim highway.
According to Ghana News Agency, the deceased, popularly known in the area as ‘Connection,’ had gone to retrieve a phone charger from a friend and was returning home when the driver of the vehicle lost control and struck him. The incident occurred near the Oti Yeboah Company Limited (OYCL) section of the road. When GNA arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m., police were present to collect the body, which had been covered with leaves by bystanders who were discussing the crash.
The deceased’s mobile phone, crutches, slippers, and the phone charger were found near the body. Bystanders informed GNA that the driver, believed to be in his 70s, had reported to the Abesim police station and was in custody to assist with police investigations.
An eyewitness, Kwabena Yeboah, told GNA that the crash occurred around 3:00 p.m. when the driver lost control of the car, causing it to veer off the road. This prompted people, including food vendors along the stretch, to flee. Unfortunately, the deceased, who had a right leg amputation, was unable to escape and was struck by the vehicle, resulting in his instant death.
