Accra: The Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced a new initiative by Noble International Business School (NiBS) University-the Speaker’s Scholarship-aimed at Members of Parliament (MPs) and Parliamentary Service Staff. This scholarship marks a significant step in fostering academic growth and capacity building among Ghana’s lawmakers and their support teams.
According to Ghana News Agency, the scholarship reflects NiBS University’s dedication to advancing higher education as a crucial element of national development. During a parliamentary session, Mr. Bagbin emphasized the role of university education in equipping individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to drive socio-economic progress.
The scholarship covers a range of graduate programs, including PhDs in Business Administration, Doctor of Business Leadership, and Doctor of Public Sector Innovation and Leadership. These programs have monetary values ranging from $1,399 to $7,599, offering substantial support
to the recipients. Mr. Bagbin stated that the scholarships aim to promote lifelong learning, enhance policy research, strengthen legislative analysis, and bridge the gap between academia and governance.
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Bagbin thanked Professor Kwaku Atuahene-Gima, President and Founder of NiBS University, along with the university community, for this generous offer. He encouraged MPs and staff to utilize the scholarship to improve their leadership abilities and better serve the Ghanaian populace.
On Wednesday, June 18, NiBS University launched the $108,000 scholarship program in the Speaker’s name to aid the capacity development of MPs and Parliamentary Service Staff. Professor Atuahene-Gima highlighted that the scholarship intends to enhance the skills of 20 beneficiaries for effective parliamentary work, democracy, and personal development. He noted that applicants need to have their forms endorsed by the Speaker.
