Accra: Olivera Miljkovic Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Serbia, has donated 45 packs of bottled and sachet water to Myra Immaculate Early Childhood Development School in Korle-Gorno, a suburb of Accra. The donation is part of the ‘Water for All’ project, which aims to improve access to clean water in nursery and kindergarten schools across Ghana.
According to Ghana News Agency, the donation marked the Foundation’s launch in Ghana, aiming to foster mutual relations between Serbia and Ghana. During the presentation at the school, Madam Jennifier Quaye, Acting General Secretary of the Foundation, emphasized the importance of children for the future of any nation. She noted the existing water issues in some parts of Accra and highlighted the decision to prioritize nurseries and kindergartens over basic schools.
Madam Quaye further stated that the Foundation’s support would extend beyond Accra, reaching nursery and kindergarten schools nationwide. Madam Selasi Letsah, the Proprietress of the School, expressed gratitude for the donation, assuring that it would be utilized effectively for the children’s benefit. She mentioned that the provision of water would alleviate the financial burden on parents, who previously had to purchase water daily for their children.
Olivera Miljkovic, after whom the Foundation is named, was born on August 30th, 1935, in Belgrade, Serbia. She was married to the renowned Serbian journalist Blagoje Miljkovic and passed away on February 3, 2025.
