NDC and NPP Unite in Mourning Helicopter Crash Victims in Cape Coast South

Accra: The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Cape Coast South Constituency have expressed their devastation following the deaths of statesmen and servicemen in a helicopter crash on Wednesday.



According to Ghana News Agency, both parties referred to the loss of the eight men as a significant blow to the nation and extended condolences to the bereaved families, the government, and the State. In memory of the victims, the NDC has organized a vigil set for Friday, August 8, at London Bridge in Cape Coast.



The crash, which occurred near Adanse in the Ashanti Region, resulted in the deaths of several prominent figures, including Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator. Others who perished were Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chairman of the NDC; Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala (pilot); Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu (co-pilot); and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.



Upon visiting the NDC constituency office, which was adorned in red and black to mark the mourning, Mr. George Elvis Korankye-Taylor, the party’s Chairman, shared that the incident was unexpected and significantly impacted the government’s operations. He reminisced about his collaboration with Dr. Omane Boamah, highlighting his strategic mind and contributions to the party’s past successes.



Madam Caroline Aboagye Awusi, the NPP Chairperson for the constituency, expressed her profound shock at the news, which she received on Wednesday afternoon. She conveyed condolences on behalf of her party, emphasizing that the deceased, who served their country, deserved recognition beyond political affiliations. Recalling her first meeting with Dr. Murtala Muhammed at the University of Cape Coast, she admired his humility and support.



Both parties called for national unity and prayers for divine guidance to prevent future tragedies.
