MTN to Co-Create Digital Transformative Skills with Communities

General

Accra: The MTN Ghana is set to co-create digital transformative skills with communities as part of its annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care event. This year’s initiative is themed ‘Connecting at the Roots; connecting communities through the use of digital tools’, emphasizing the importance of grassroots engagement in digital transformation.

According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative underscores MTN’s belief that digital transformation should begin at the community level rather than within corporate offices. Mr. David Woasey, the Area Sales Manager for the South-West Business District, highlighted during the launch that digital exclusion remains a significant issue, particularly in rural, remote, and underserved areas. Despite Ghana’s impressive advancements in technology and innovation, many rural women, farmers, and individuals with disabilities continue to be left out of digital opportunities, posing a pressing development challenge.

The Y’ello Care initiative, now in its 18th year, has consistently showcased the power of employee-led action to effect meaningful change across communities. Since its inception, the campaign has rallied thousands of MTN employees to engage in impactful initiatives focused on education, health, youth development, and economic empowerment. This year, MTN staff will implement practical, community-driven projects that utilize technology to enhance connectivity.

Mr. Woasey stressed that the Y’ello Care initiative is a testament to MTN’s commitment to using volunteerism as a means of inclusion, empowerment, and transformation. A key principle of this year’s campaign is co-creation, involving collaboration with local communities to identify their needs and ensure the sustainability of the projects.

Madam Alberta Brown Orleans, the Programmes Manager at Duapa Werkspace, echoed the sentiment, noting that the theme aligns with the organisation’s mission to impact communities, foster innovation, and promote sustainability.
