Agona Kwaman: The Chiefs, Assemblyman, and residents of Agona Kwaman have successfully organized a two-day communal labour effort to clear weeds along the Bobikuma/Kwaman and Kwaman/Agona Nyakrom highways. The initiative also included desilting choked gutters and sweeping streets and other public spaces to ensure a cleaner environment.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Amoah Sekyi II, Benkumhene of Agona Kwaman, highlighted that the Bobikuma/Kwaman highway had remained bushy for years, posing a risk to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The Benkumhene stated that while the exercise aimed to clear filth, it also sought to revive communal spirit among the youth, who have shown apathy towards communal labour in recent times. He appealed to the younger generation to actively participate in such activities, which have been a hallmark of their forefathers.
Nana Amoah Sekyi, representing Nana Opaaku Yeboah VI, Chief of Agona Kwaman, along with Queen mothers, family heads, and linguists, mentioned that since the road was tarred in 2014, the community has consistently organized communal labour to maintain the roadsides. He also took the opportunity to advise the youth against the use of hard drugs and engagement in social vices, encouraging them to pursue further education and vocational skills for future growth.
Mr. Ebenezer Bimpong, the Presiding Member of the Agona West Municipal Assembly and Assemblyman for Agona Kwaman, noted that one of President Mahama’s government’s key principles is to address sanitation issues, which is why the communal labour was initiated. Mr. Bimpong emphasized that mobilizing the chiefs and youth to undertake the exercise was aimed at reducing risks for road users. He encouraged other assembly members to organize similar communal labour events in their areas to promote cleanliness and safety.
