Akonoma D/A Basic School Renovated by City Life Church in Houston

Accra: The City Life Church in Houston, USA, has successfully completed the renovation of the Akonoma D/A Basic School in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Traditional Area of the Central region. The renovation provides a more conducive learning environment for students.



According to Ghana News Agency, the project was initiated by Prof Okatakyi Amenfi XII, the Paramount Chief of the Traditional Area, with the objective of enhancing the quality of education in the community. This effort was part of the celebrations marking Prof Okatakyi Amenfi’s 25th anniversary as the paramount chief of the area.



During a brief ceremony to hand over the school to the community, Prof Okatakyi Amenfi noted that the school’s previous condition hindered effective teaching and learning. He expressed gratitude to the church for their contribution, emphasizing that the new environment would encourage community interest in education.



The paramount chief also highlighted the community’s long-standing challenge with inadequate facilities. He stressed the importance of maintaining the newly renovated structure and pledged to ensure the community’s proper care of the facility. Prof Okatakyi Amenfi also revealed the establishment of an education fund supporting numerous students annually and encouraged public support to expand its reach.



Mr. Michael Pratt Myles, team leader of the City Life Church, spoke on the significance of education for successful living. He expressed the church’s commitment to improving educational facilities in deprived communities and emphasized the importance of developing the youth, who are seen as the future.



Mr. David Amano Tetteh, the Headmaster of the school, assured that maintenance would be a priority and announced plans to involve the Parent Teacher Association and the Schools Management Committee in this effort. He also appealed for additional desks, chairs, and accommodation facilities for staff to further address the school’s needs.
