Nyankpala: Eco Restore Limited, an organisation focused on sustainable resource management, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala Campus. This three-year renewable agreement seeks to improve environmental management, with a special emphasis on restoring indigenous tree species in the country’s northern regions.
According to Ghana News Agency, the MoU was signed by Professor Seidu Al-Hassan, Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Professor Ziblim Abukari Imoro, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment, and Dr Zakaria Issahaku, Co-Director of Eco Restore Limited. Dr Peter Lovett, another Co-Director of Eco Restore Limited, witnessed the signing at UDS’s Nyankpala Campus in the Northern Region, expressing that the initiative demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to forging strategic partnerships.
A significant aspect of the partnership is the involvement of students from UDS’s Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment in Eco Restore Limited’s projects. This initiative is part of a larger effort to mentor and cultivate a new generation of leaders dedicated to the sustainable management and restoration of natural ecosystems, with a focus on indigenous trees.
Dr Lovett stressed the importance of pooling expertise and resources to address environmental degradation and bolster natural resource conservation. He noted the various challenges the environment has faced over the years, highlighting the necessity for collaborative actions to prevent further deterioration and guarantee long-term sustainability.
Professor Imoro pointed out that the partnership is in line with the Faculty’s mission to nurture future leaders in environmental conservation, who will contribute to broader socio-economic development through sustainable practices.
