Takoradi: Traders at the Takoradi Central Business district of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have called on the new government to see to the immediate completion of the Takoradi Market Circle project. According to them, their businesses face challenges due to low patronage at the temporary market.
According to Ghana News Agency, traders are divided into two main groups, one at the Takoradi Jubilee grounds and the other at the Takoradi Port quarters, popularly known as the ‘New Market.’ Madam Peace Agboshie, a corn dough and maize seller, noted that business was thriving at the Jubilee grounds, while those in the new market faced low customer patronage, affecting their businesses.
Madam Marian Asmah, an okro and pepper seller, expressed similar concerns and appealed to the government for assistance. She urged the operationalization of the women’s bank initiative to provide traders with access to flexible loans to sustain their businesses.
Madam Asmah also highlighted the need for intensified security in the market to protect their goods, pointing out frequent thefts. Other traders expressed optimism about the new government, hoping for strategic initiatives to enhance economic growth and improve living conditions for Ghanaians.
