Accra: Mr. Bill Godson Ocloo, the Executive Director of the African Center for Human Security, has commended the National Service Authority (NSA) for its recent decision to introduce military training for national service personnel. The initiative, aimed at the 2025/2026 cohort, is designed to instill discipline, patriotism, and responsibility among the youth.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ocloo highlighted that the six-week military training program would not only focus on combat skills but also emphasize discipline, teamwork, leadership, and sacrifice. He believes that incorporating military training into the National Service program will enable young people to develop essential skills and a sense of patriotism, potentially reshaping the next generation of leaders and promoting national pride.

Mr. Ocloo further elaborated that the military training would enhance discipline, improve national security, promote patriotism, and develop leadership and teamwork skills. It would also increase the capacity for emergency response and disaster management. He emphasized the importance of investing in the youth to shape future leaders and promote national development.

Drawing parallels with similar programs like the National Service Training Programme (NSTP) in the Philippines, Mr. Ocloo noted the positive impact such initiatives have had in fostering civic consciousness among young people. He urged public support for the initiative to ensure the progress and development of the country.

The security analyst also acknowledged potential challenges that the program might face, such as the need for careful planning, resources, and support. He appealed to corporate organizations and stakeholders to support the government in ensuring proper and successful implementation.

Some National Service Personnel preparing for their mandatory services in Keta shared their excitement with the Ghana News Agency about the opportunity to undergo military training before their official posting, expressing enthusiasm for the new initiative.
