Aiyinasi: President of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Mr. Wepia Addo Awal Adugwuala, has called on the government through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) to assist farmers in forming cooperatives. They are encouraged to support these farmers with input credit, machinery services, and market linkages to boost and sustain production levels.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Awal Adugwuala highlighted that the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana has over one million members nationwide who are engaged in producing various agricultural products. These efforts could potentially combat hunger and lessen the economic challenges faced by Ghanaians. He emphasized that the farmer service centers, which the government plans to establish, should be managed by farmer cooperatives in different districts to enhance production.

Mr. Awal Adugwuala noted that more than 60 percent of the population is employed in agriculture, underscoring the need for the government to focus on this sector for economic growth. He stressed that redirecting efforts towards agriculture could effectively address hunger and economic difficulties in the country.
