Kumasi: Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has urged a collective commitment to promote environmental cleanliness across the region, aiming to make it more attractive for visitors and investors alike. He stressed the importance of enforcing existing sanitation regulations and byelaws by the Assemblies as a necessary step for progress, highlighting sanitation as a priority for the Presidency.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Amoakohene conveyed these remarks during an engagement with chiefs and residents of Asuofua-Asamang. He was participating in a clean-up exercise organized by the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly, targeting selected electoral areas. His visit also included inspections of stalled development projects and discussions with traditional and opinion leaders on enhancing district infrastructure and services.

The clean-up initiative is part of the ‘Keep Ashanti Clean’ campaign, which aims to boost environmental hygiene in anticipation of a visit from His Royal Majesty King Mswati III of Eswatini, who is expected in Kumasi this week. Dr. Amoakohene praised the chiefs and community members for their proactive role in improving local sanitation and development.

He assured support for local traders, shop owners, and residents by providing waste bins to facilitate proper waste disposal, thereby reducing littering throughout daily activities. Mr. Mba Alenbila Zechariah, the District Chief Executive, called on officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Environmental Health Department, and related agencies to enhance public education on sanitation. He emphasized enforcing sanitation laws and warned that violators could face prosecution.

Nana Banie Ahenkan, Queen Mother of Asuofua, expressed her gratitude towards the Regional Minister, the DCE, and their team for their participation in the clean-up exercise and their support for community development.
