Accra: Very Rev. Francis Kojo Ennuson, General Manager of Methodist Schools, has called on Headteachers to commit to achieving educational excellence by upholding high academic standards. He emphasized the importance of developing effective teaching strategies, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and maintaining a high sense of discipline and morality to achieve this goal.
According to Ghana News Agency, Very Rev. Ennuson made this call at the ‘2025 Bishop’s Excellence Awards’ in Accra, themed ‘Discipleship – Growing into Christian Maturity through Excellence in Education’. He highlighted that academic excellence involves rigorous academic standards, engaging teaching methods, innovative curriculum design, personalized learning experiences, and a supportive environment. These elements are crucial in preparing students for future opportunities and equipping them with the skills to navigate modern challenges, think critically, and develop innovative solutions.
Very Rev. Ennuson urged Headteachers to create learning environments that prepare students for successful futures and empower them to positively impact the world. He expressed his expectation that Headteachers will vigorously pursue these strategies to make educational excellence the hallmark of Methodist schools.
He also congratulated award winners, urging them to remain dedicated and encouraging their colleagues to strive for excellence in future editions. Mrs. Christiana Amobah Adjei, Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Methodist Education Unit, stated that the awards are the first of their kind to celebrate diligent Headteachers and teachers in four dioceses of the Methodist Church of Ghana. The awards also honor learners for outstanding performances in various competitions.
Mrs. Adjei explained that honourees were selected through a rigorous process involving nominations, interviews, field assessments, and evaluations based on classroom work, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Awards were presented in categories covering headteachers, teachers, learners, and schools.
Madam Juliana Asante of Kpone Methodist ‘A’ Basic School was named the overall best Headteacher, followed by Madam Dora Naa Darkua Dodoo of John Wesley Methodist Basic School and Mr. Eric Amankwah Marfo of Bethel Methodist Academy, Taifa. In the teachers’ category, Madam Josephine Nimado of Rev Thomas Clegg Methodist Basic School won the first best teacher for JHS, with others following in various ranks.
Awards in the Kindergarten category and other levels recognized outstanding educators and schools for their accomplishments in the 2025 Methodist Competitive Examinations and regional competitions.
