Sofia: Bulgaria will seek security and de-escalation in the Black Sea Region, Parliament leader says at meeting with BSEC Secretary General.
According to Ghana News Agency, in a meeting with the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) Secretary General Lazar Comanescu, Bulgarian Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova expressed hopes that Bulgaria will contribute to restoring peace, security, and cooperation in Europe during its BSEC Chairmanship-in-office. The meeting was reported by the Parliament’s press centre.
Bulgaria’s leadership of both the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) and BSEC presents an opportunity for the country to play an active role in fostering deeper cooperation amidst global instability. Kiselova emphasized Bulgaria’s commitment to ensuring security and calm in the Black Sea region.
During the 66th General Assembly of PABSEC, hosted by Bulgaria, the Parliament plans to address issues related to marine cleanliness, energy cooperation, communications, transport, and tourism. Kiselova expressed confidence that MP Petar Kanev, the Head of the Bulgarian delegation to PABSEC, will help realign the organization with its founding goal of economic cooperation among Black Sea countries.
Lazar Comanescu expressed optimism about improved cooperation among BSEC member states. He highlighted the potential for launching projects that would enhance economic cooperation, with the support of other regional organizations. Comanescu noted that such cooperation is crucial for strengthening security and stability in the region.
Petar Kanev extended an invitation to Comanescu to participate in events organized by Bulgaria during its term as Chair of PABSEC.
As reported by BTA, the Bulgarian government has identified four key priorities for its BSEC Chairmanship: environmental protection and sustainable management of marine resources; cultural and educational exchange and tourism in the Black Sea region; regional resilience and crisis management; and cooperation with the European Union and other regional organizations.
The Bulgarian National Assembly began its six-month Chairmanship of PABSEC on July 1, following a visit to Azerbaijan by a delegation led by Kiselova to participate in the 65th PABSEC General Assembly.
