Accra: Togbe Dorglo Anumah VI, the Paramount Chief of the Avenor Traditional Area and President of the Avenor Traditional Council, has commended Mr. Bernard Ahiafor on his new position as the first Deputy Speaker of the Ninth Parliament of Ghana. He stated that his elevation was a source of great pride to all.

According to Ghana News Agency, Togbe Dorglo expressed optimism about the potential benefits Ahiafor’s new role could bring to the community. He highlighted the need for development in education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and infrastructure within the Traditional Area. The chief made this appeal during a courtesy call on Mr. Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, following his election as First Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament.

Togbe Dorglo acknowledged that while Mr. Ahiafor’s role as a legislator does not include dedicated budgets for infrastructure projects like building schools, roads, and hospitals, his position provides a unique opportunity to lobby for the community’s needs. He emphasized that the community expects Mr. Ahiafor to act as an ambassador for Avenor, using his platform to advocate for their development goals.

Describing the current era as the ‘Golden Age in Avenor,’ Togbe Dorglo expressed confidence that Mr. Ahiafor’s position would honor Akatsi South and the entire Traditional Area through integrity, wisdom, and good governance. Other members of the Traditional Council, including Torgbui Azibodzi III and Mama Yeasidi III, echoed these sentiments, focusing discussions on health, security, skills development, and education.

Torgbui Azibodzi highlighted the importance of establishing a Divisional status for the Police Command in the Municipality as a foundation for sustainable development. Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways and MP for Adaklu, also participated in the meeting, reiterating President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to the Volta Region and Akatsi South. He pledged the government’s dedication to improving infrastructure, including roads.

Mr. Agbodza praised Mr. Ahiafor’s maturity in his new role and his effective handling of responsibilities, such as vetting Ministerial nominees. In response, Mr. Ahiafor expressed gratitude to Togbega Dorglo, the chiefs, queen mothers, and the delegation for their visit. He pledged his dedication to the constituency and called for collective efforts to develop Akatsi South, the Volta Region, and Ghana as a whole.

Mr. Ahiafor assured the delegation of his commitment to addressing their concerns and called on all stakeholders to support him and other leaders in their development agenda. Discussions also touched on integrating Akatsi South Constituency into President John Dramani Mahama’s broader national development plans.
