15 Chinese Nationals and One Ghanaian Remanded Over Illegal Mining Activities

Koforidua: The Koforidua Circuit Court 2 has remanded 15 Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities at Akyem Amenase in the Eastern Region.



According to Ghana News Agency, the Ghanaian suspect is identified as Abdul Mumin Adams, aged 42. The Chinese nationals include Wang Fu Qing, 39, Ye Bi Hua, 44, Zheng Zhou Yi, 64, Ye You Ming, 55, Luo Jian Bo, 59, Tian Yu Bing, 46, Fan Shu Hui, 47, Du Cheng Quan, 54, Yuan Jian Dong, 33, Wu Ke Hu, 57, Zhu Ling Ceng, 49, Chen Yi, 38, Shi Gao Hui, 43, Tan Tao Zhong, 53, and Lin Li Zhong, 60. All Chinese suspects admitted to entering Ghana on tourist visas and lacked the necessary permits to work in the country.



Abdul Mumin Adams confessed to masterminding their illegal entry through an individual named Zhou, to operate on a site owned by the complainant, Mr. George Wussah. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Lydia Yaako Donkor, who is the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department, announced during a press briefing that the suspects are due to return to court on July 3, 2025.



The case came to light after Mr. Wussah filed a petition with the CID, reporting illegal mining activities on his concession at Akyem Amenase in the New Abirim District. Following the petition on June 20, 2025, a team from CID Headquarters and National SWAT apprehended the suspects at the mining site.



DCOP Donkor mentioned ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend the individual named Zhou. She reiterated the police’s commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks to ensure public safety and security. She also encouraged public cooperation to enhance the effectiveness of police operations.
