Nkoranza: Obrempong Amponsem II, Chief of Anyima, in the Nkoranza traditional area, has petitioned the government to intervene in the rising tension between the youths of Nkoranza and Mo (Dega) communities. The tensions have been rising as a result of a longstanding land boundary dispute which had in recent days resurfaced, causing fear and panic among surrounding communities in the Kintampo, Nkoranza, and peripheral areas.
According to Ghana News Agency, Obrempong Amponsem II, making the appeal at the Yam Festival in Anyima, noted that if the current situation was not addressed swiftly, it could lead to loss of lives and properties, explaining that recently there had been threats on lives by some aggrieved youths on the land borders. He emphasized the importance of the government taking necessary measures through security agencies to bring the issue under control. “We have always co-existed peacefully, but these recent developments are not friendly, and we cannot allow it to continue,” he stated.
The Chief highlighted that intermarriages have created strong bonds among the people, and it was crucial to preserve this unity. Obrempong Amponsem praised the harmony and unity that had existed among Muslims, Christians, and traditional believers in the area. He stressed that peace should not be underrated and warned that if these predominantly farming communities failed to tolerate each other, it could influence Ghana’s development agenda.
