COCOBOD Announces Opening of 2025/26 Main Crop Season with New Cocoa Prices

Accra: The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced the producer price for cocoa beans for the 2025/2026 main crop season, which commenced on Thursday, August 7, 2025. The announcement outlined the new pricing structure for cocoa beans, establishing specific rates for different grades and quantities.

According to Ghana News Agency, COCOBOD stated in a circular that the producer price for cocoa beans will be GHS1,549.92 per load of 30 kilogrammes for Grade I and GHS3,229 per bag of 64 kilogrammes gross. The circular, signed by Dr. Ransford Abbey, Acting Chief Executive of COCOBOD, further detailed that the price for a tonne consisting of 16 bags is set at GHC 51,664. Purchases of cocoa beans will be conducted at all buying centres across the country.

Last week, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson highlighted that the government had maintained the Cedi equivalent of US$3,100 per tonne at GHS16 to US$1 for several months. This decision aims to protect farmers from potential income loss. Additionally, Dr. Forson announced approved margins and fees for key players in the cocoa value chain, including buyers, haulers, warehouse operators, and quality control units. These measures are intended to ensure a seamless start to the 2025/26 season, along with the provision of jute bags.

For farmers, the Finance Minister indicated the government's commitment to providing free liquid and granular fertilisers, insecticides, fungicides, and flower inducers. These provisions are expected to help farmers increase their yields during the crop season.
