Ridge Hospital Nurse Sues Activist for GHS7 Million

Accra: Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a nurse at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, has initiated a GHS7 million lawsuit against Ralph Saint Williams over allegations of physical assault and defamation. The lawsuit, lodged at the High Court in Accra, requests GHS5 million for battery and an additional GHS2 million for defamatory remarks made by Mr. Williams, who is widely known as Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian, following an altercation on August 17, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, the statement of claim outlines that Ms. Bortei was on duty when Mr. Williams entered the emergency ward with a group, insisting on immediate treatment for a finger injury. At the time, medical staff were attending to a patient with an open fracture, and Mr. Williams allegedly refused to adhere to hospital procedures, asserting that his Ghana Card should replace a hospital card. The plaintiff detailed that Mr. Williams became visibly angry, directing insults and threats at the staff without provocation.

Ms. Bortei further alleged that Mr. Williams recorded staff and patients without consent, violating medical confidentiality, and later disseminated the footage online. Despite the absence of active bleeding, she administered first aid, but Mr. Williams reportedly removed the dressing and returned with a group, accusing the staff of negligence.

The situation escalated when Mr. Williams allegedly struck Ms. Bortei with a clenched fist and a metallic cellphone while she was attending to other patients. She claimed that Mr. Williams and his associates, described as well-built men, intensified the attack, resulting in injuries to her shoulder, arm, back, and waist. Furthermore, Ms. Bortei accused Mr. Williams of defaming her in a video, alleging that her injuries were fabricated to cover up issues at the hospital, thereby harming her reputation and causing emotional distress.

In her lawsuit, Ms. Bortei seeks a public apology and retraction from Mr. Williams, along with a perpetual injunction to prevent further defamatory publications. Additionally, she is requesting a restraining order to keep Mr. Williams at least 50 metres away from her, as well as legal costs and any further relief deemed appropriate by the court.
