Kwadaso: Two friends have been jailed 36 years by the Kwadaso Circuit court in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti region, for conspiring and robbing a taxi driver at Atwima Kwanwoma.
According to Ghana News Agency, Maxmillian Foli, alias 'Thug,' pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy and robbery and was convicted on his own plea, resulting in a 21-year imprisonment sentence. His accomplice, Blessing Ohe, alias 'Demon,' also pleaded guilty to conspiracy and received a 15-year jail term.
Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi presented the facts of the case to the court, presided over by Mr. Jephthah Appau. The complainant, Emmanuel Poku, a taxi driver residing at Bokankye near Asuoyeboa, was the victim of the robbery. The accused, residents of Atwima-Akyeremade near Kwadaso, plotted the crime.
On August 28, 2025, at approximately 16:00 hours, the convicts convened at their usual meeting place to plan the robbery using pairs of scissors. Foli later called Ohe to execute the plan at 9:00 pm at Sofoline, but Ohe was unavailable until 10:30 pm. Foli then hired Poku's taxi for GHc 70.00 from Sofoline to Akyeremade.
Upon reaching Akyeremade, Foli instructed Poku to stop and pick up Ohe, who was waiting by the roadside. However, sensing danger, Poku drove towards Kwanwoma. Before entering Kwanwoma township, Foli attacked Poku with a pair of scissors, demanding his car and valuables.
Injured, Poku abandoned the car, and Foli drove it towards Sofoline. He fled with the car's daily sales, a car tape, and a Samsung A20 mobile phone, leaving the car behind. Poku reported the incident to Denchemmuoso police, who towed the car to the station.
Ohe was arrested that night, and a search revealed his pair of scissors. On September 01, 2025, Foli was apprehended at his hideout in Kwanwoma. Both admitted to the crime in their caution statements and were subsequently charged and brought before the court.
