NGO educates stakeholders on child trafficking and Labour in Ada

The Volta Resilience Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has held a day's workshop in the Ada East District to educate stakeholders on the dangers of child trafficking and child labour.The workshop was aimed at raising awareness and sensitising the community leaders to the urgent need to protect children from illegal activities.Mr Julius Odoi Amesimeku, the Executive Director of the Volta Resilience Foundation, noted that Ada had been associated with child trafficking for too long, and the workshop sought to change that narrative, adding that the engagement was crucial in fostering collective efforts towards safeguarding the lives of children in the district.Naana Adiki Adi Manyeyo I, the President of the Ada Queen Mothers Consortium and Queen for the Royal Adibiawer Clan of Ada expressed concern over the rising cases of child trafficking in the area and urged her fellow queen mothers to take an active role in protecting children.She emphasised the importance of community vigilance and called on traditional leaders to use their influence to combat the menace.She gave the assurance that, together with other queen mothers in the area, they would collaborate with the Ada Traditional Council and Assembly Members to enact by-laws against hard drugs, child trafficking, and child labour, among others in the area.Mr.?Philip Sai, a former presiding member of the Ada West?District Assembly, underscored the need for continuous public education on child trafficking and labour.He called for collaborative efforts between local authorities and non-governmental organisations to implement effective measures to curb the problem.Mrs. Faustina Blewusi, the Ada East District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), urged queen mothers to lead the campaign against child trafficking, saying their involvement was critical in mobilising community support and ensuring that children were safe from exploitation.Source: Ghana News Agency
