Anlo State Mourns Eight Prominent Citizens Lost in Helicopter Crash

Accra: The Anlo Dukor Council has joined the nation in mourning the tragic loss of eight prominent citizens who perished in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Adansi in the Ashanti Region. In a statement signed by Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, Awadada of Anlo Dukor, on behalf of Awoamefia Togbi Sri III and the entire Anlo State, the council described the incident as a tragedy that leaves "a deep wound not just in the hearts of their families, but in the spirit of the entire country."

According to Ghana News Agency, the Council extended condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government machinery, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Ghana Armed Forces, and the bereaved families of the victims. "Their passing is a loss not only to their loved ones but to the entire nation, as each served Ghana with courage, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the common good," the statement read.

Togbi Awusu prayed for the spirits of the departed to find rest among the honoured ancestors and urged the nation to draw strength from unity during this period of grief. "In loss, we remember what binds us. Let this tragic event remind us of our shared humanity, and of the duty we each carry to preserve the peace and progress for which they worked so hard," Awadada said.

Some Chiefs and Queens, who spoke with the Ghana News Agency, described the incident as "the darkest day in Ghana's recent history," with emotions running high as the Anlo community struggled to come to terms with the scale of the loss. "It was a shock. a real shock; I couldn't believe that not even one person made it out alive. We hope the authorities fast-track the investigations to know what caused it to prevent future occurrences," Togbi Subo II of Anloga shared.

Mama Diawor II of Anlo-Afiadenyigba also lamented the loss, emphasizing the significance of those who perished. "These are not just citizens but servants serving in high capacities; we pray they find a peaceful resting place," Mama said.

The statement called on all natives to respect the dignity of the deceased and the privacy of the bereaved by attaching enough politeness to comments and activities in these hard times. The military helicopter was carrying eight people, including Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator. Other passengers included Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, pilot; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, co-pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, crew member. The crash occurred in a forest near Adansi in the Ashanti Region, resulting in the loss of all on board.
