Asukawkaw: A collaborative effort between the Krachi East Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Nelson Kofi Djabab, and the Lordina Mahama Foundation has taken a significant step forward with the inspection of about 15-20 hectares of land to construct a maternity and children's ward in Asukawkaw. The project was initiated following a courtesy call paid to the Paramount Chief of Akroso Traditional Council, Nana Odam-Gyamfi, by a team led by Madam Priscilla Santuo Okra, and the Krachi East MP.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Okra, the Administrator for the office of the First Lady and Board Secretary of the Foundation, emphasized the Foundation's commitment to tangible work, prioritizing the needs of women and children. She mentioned that the construction of the maternity ward is expected to begin soon and will be completed within six months, with a projected handover date of December 2025. The new facility will provide much-needed medical care and support to the community, reflecting the commitment of both the MP and the foundation to improving healthcare infrastructure in the area.
Ms. Jacqueline Abapanyin, a midwife, described the current state of the labour room at the Asukawkaw clinic as inadequate, highlighting the challenges faced by expectant mothers and healthcare workers. She noted that the labour room is cramped, making it difficult to accommodate multiple patients in labour simultaneously. The new facility is expected to provide a more conducive environment for expectant mothers, ensuring safer and more dignified care during childbirth.
Mr. Danku Amin, the officer in charge of the clinic, stated that the new ward will enable the admission of more patients from the surrounding communities. He pointed out that the project is expected to bring significant benefits to the community, enhancing access to quality healthcare services and improving health outcomes for women and children in the area.
Mr. Djabab expressed heartfelt gratitude to the First Lady, Her Excellency Lordina Mahama, for her benevolent gesture in constructing a maternity ward in the constituency. The MP welcomed the project, describing it as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the area. He thanked the First Lady for listening to the needs of the people of Krachi East and choosing the constituency for this vital project. Mr. Djabab described the First Lady as a caring mother, praying for her continued success and blessings.
Nana Odam-Gyamfi, President of the Akroso Traditional Council, also expressed appreciation to the Lordina Mahama Foundation for the construction of the maternity ward in Asukawkaw. The Paramount Chief described the project as a significant development for the people of Akroso and its environs. He mentioned that the community will forever remember the First Lady's philanthropic gesture, which will improve healthcare delivery for women and children. The chief extended his gratitude to the MP for successfully lobbying the Lordina Mahama Foundation to bring this vital healthcare infrastructure project to the Akrosoman area.
