High Court Mandates Social Media Service for Contempt Notice Against Sunyanimahene

Accra: The Sunyani High Court has issued a directive for the 'motion of notice' of contempt against Odeefour Ogyeamasan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief, and Nana Kwaku Sarbeng, Akwamuhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area, to be served through internet and Whatsapp platforms.

According to Ghana News Agency, the court's decision stems from the plaintiff, Nana Asor Sika Brayie II, the Paramount Queen-mother of the Traditional Area, being unable to personally serve the defendants for six months. The court has also instructed the plaintiff to post copies of the motion on Facebook and YouTube channels as part of the service process.

The court order, signed by Registrar Samuel Tanor, emphasizes the need for alternative methods of service due to the difficulty in reaching the defendants. It further mandates the plaintiff to post the notice on the high court's notice board and serve the defendants through Sunyani's local Whatsapp platforms.

The motion specifies that posting a copy of the notice at both the old and new palace in Sunyani for seven days will be deemed as proper service. The plaintiff, Nana Brayie II, has filed a petition seeking to restrain Odeefour Ogyeamasan Korkor II from acting as the Paramount Chief of Sunyani until the petition is resolved.

An affidavit filed by Kwame Twumasi-Awuah of Twumasi and Associates, a legal firm based in Sunyani, also requests the court to prevent Nana Sarbeng from presenting or introducing Odeefour Ogyeamasan Korkor II as the paramount chief on any platform or in any manner.
