Government Allocates One Billion Cedis for Infrastructure to Address Double-Track System

Accra: The Minister for Education, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, announced that the government plans to allocate approximately one billion Ghana cedis from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to expand infrastructure as part of efforts to address the double-track system. This initiative is a component of the 'Reset Agenda' spearheaded by President Mahama, aimed at enhancing education quality nationwide.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Iddrisu, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Tamale South Constituency, shared these details during a visit to Zebilla Senior High Technical School (ZSHTS) in the Upper East Region's Bawku West District. The President has instructed the Minister for Finance to include this allocation in the 2026 budget. The visit was part of a working tour of selected Senior High Technical Schools in the region, including Bolgatanga Technical Institute, recently involved in student unrest.

During his visit, Mr. Iddrisu engaged with students at Zamese Senior High Technical School (ZSHTS) who were preparing for the Integrated Science paper in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). He also inspected campus infrastructure and acknowledged the deteriorating state of educational facilities nationwide, which hinders learning quality. He assured that efforts would be made to commission a Home Economics block on the campus by the following year, as part of the 2026 GETFund plans.

Addressing the 506 candidates of the school, Mr. Iddrisu emphasized the importance of honesty, discipline, and tolerance, urging them to maintain peace and unity, which are essential for learning. He reiterated that education is crucial for combating poverty and ignorance, particularly in Northern Ghana, and encouraged the students to excel in their examinations.

Mr. Ebenezer Alumire Ndebila, MP for the Zebilla Constituency, requested the Minister's attention towards completing an E-Block at Sapeliga in the constituency. Accompanying Mr. Iddrisu were Mr. Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and other officials from the GES and the Ministry.
