Hohoe: Most first-year students admitted to various Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country reported to school on Saturday, October 18, amid excitement and hope for a promising academic journey. A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Senior High School (HEPSS), Volta Region, and Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC) in the Oti region observed freshers arriving on campus with their parents and guardians, carrying their belongings and school supplies, amid high expectations.
According to Ghana News Agency, many of the students expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to begin their secondary education, with most eager to work hard to fulfill their future aspirations. Master Mawuenyega Korsitse, a first-year General Science student at HEPSS, said he was thrilled to be placed in the Science programme, a step he believed brings him closer to his dream of becoming a medical doctor. He expressed his excitement about studying Science and his determination to work hard to achieve his dream of becoming a doctor.
Miss Catherine Miyor, who has been admitted to the Home Economics programme, told the GNA that she intended to take her studies seriously to become a successful professional in the hospitality and catering industry. She shared her happiness about being in school and her focus on achieving her dream of becoming a top chef and possibly opening her own restaurant someday.
At Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC), Miss Mary Afenya, a Home Economics student, also shared her excitement about starting SHS. She expressed her determination to study hard, respect her teachers, and make her parents proud.
School authorities at both institutions described the admission and registration process as smooth, with support systems in place to assist students and their families. Orientation sessions were also underway to help students adjust to their new environment and understand school rules, academic expectations, and boarding life.
Mr. Mark Annor, the Head of Science Department at KASEC, told the GNA that the school was prepared to welcome the freshers and provide the necessary support to help them settle in. He mentioned that adequate preparations had been made to receive the new students, including assigning mentors to help them adjust to school life.
Parents who accompanied their wards also expressed satisfaction with the reception and general organisation of the admission process. The 2025 academic calendar officially begins for first-year SHS students with orientation and registration activities expected to continue over the coming days, followed by the commencement of academic work.
