Ghana Needs Integrated Supply Chain Management Across Sectors to Create Value

Accra: The Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management (CISCM) has advocated for the implementation of an integrated supply chain management approach across all sectors of Ghana's economy to foster value creation and promote growth. Mr. Richard Asante Amoah, Lead Executive of the Institute, emphasized that such an approach could help optimize resources and minimize waste.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Amoah, during a presentation of the First Half Business Scan organized by the CISCM, highlighted the significance of adopting a mindset that integrates supply chain principles into daily operations. The approach, known as applied supply chain management, is founded on principles like the remote source and absolute value. These principles aim to minimize adverse effects and maximize value, thereby reducing systemic waste.

Mr. Amoah stressed the necessity for leaders to ensure that actions align with a collectively identified direction, underscoring the need for collaboration rather than isolation in activities to enhance value. He identified the President as the chief integrated supply chain manager, tasked with coordinating institutions to achieve value.

Key areas where integrated supply chain management could be beneficial include sourcing, procurement, transport, supply chain financing, human capital, technology, projects, leadership, planning, and policies. Mr. Richard Obeng Okrah, President of the Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management, noted that these areas could significantly impact national growth with effective non-political leadership across sectors.

Mr. Okrah called on the government to allocate financial resources for specific projects, emphasizing that financial resources are crucial for driving developmental agendas and ensuring the effectiveness of supply chain management.
