Tamale: A violent clash between students of Vitting Senior High School and Dabokpa Technical Institute in Tamale has left one student injured, temporarily disrupting peace in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, a distress call was received around 02:40 hours on July 19, reporting a confrontation between students of the two schools.
The Command immediately deployed its night patrol team to the scene to restore calm. Inspector Lukman Neindow, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency. He said the clash involved students throwing stones across the boundaries separating the two campuses until the Police intervened.
'One student from Dabokpa Technical Institute was found injured upon arrival and was immediately rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for medical attention,' he said. A follow-up visit by the Police the next day confirmed that the student had been treated and discharged.
Inspector Neindow disclosed that although no arrests had yet been made, a search conducted in the dormitories of both schools led to the discovery of dangerous items including scissors, machetes, and knives. He added that the Command was reviewing CCTV footage and gathering additional evidence to determine the cause of the disturbance and to identify those responsible.
He assured the public of the Police Service's commitment to maintaining peace and order and called on school authorities, parents, and community leaders to support efforts to promote discipline and peaceful coexistence among students. Meanwhile, Minister for Education Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Northern Regional Minister Mr. Ali Adolf John, and Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro have since visited the two schools to appeal for calm and engage stakeholders in resolving tensions.
