Funeral Arrangements Announced for Victims of Ghana Helicopter Crash

Accra: The Islamic funerals for Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, the Deputy National Security Coordinator, will be held on Sunday, August 9. Both individuals were victims of the helicopter crash that occurred on August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region. The state funeral will take place at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra at 1400 hours.According to Ghana News Agency, President John Dramani Mahama made the announcement during the Evening of Reflections and Memorial for the eight victims of the tragic helicopter crash. The President confirmed the positive identification of the bodies and stated that the first two will be laid to rest at the military cemetery in Tse Addo. He mentioned that consultations with the families would determine the burial dates for the remaining victims.President Mahama emphasized the unity of the nation during this time of mourning, urging Ghanaians to come together as one, transc ending regional, ethnic, and political divisions. He highlighted the interconnectedness of the communities touched by the victims, underscoring the importance of mourning and healing as a unified nation.The President called for the transformation of sorrow into action, encouraging the nation to honor the memories of the deceased by committing to the ideals for which they lived and died. He urged the citizens to focus on nation-building, transcending differences, and working towards a prosperous Ghana.The solemn event was graced by numerous dignitaries, including the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio, the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Vice President Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Speaker of Parliament Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Acting Chief Justice Mr Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
