Deputy Minister of Education Launches Rosebank International University College in Ghana

Accra: Dr. Clement Apaak, Deputy Minister of Education, has officially outdoored Rosebank International University College (RIUC) in Ghana. The university, which was founded in South Africa and currently operates in more than three other African countries, will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Ghana.According to Ghana News Agency, the launch was attended by ministers of state and regulators, including representatives from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), underscoring the private sector's vital role in advancing tertiary education in Ghana. In his address, Dr. Apaak stated that the private sector played a significant role in helping the government achieve its goal of training a competitive labor force. He added that public universities alone could not bear the burden of providing avenues for higher education for the country's youthful population.The Deputy Minister emphasized that the Ministry maintained an open-door policy, welcoming private institutions and higher-level NGO s. He noted the strong track record of Rosebank University and expressed optimism that it would deliver affordable, quality, state-of-the-art, and transformative education to Ghanaians.Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Director-General of GTEC, in a speech read on his behalf, cautioned that accreditation did not conclude with the award of a certificate. 'It is a continuous, evolving process that involves constant monitoring, review, and improvement,' he said. The Director-General assured that the Commission would continue to monitor and assess the university's performance to ensure that quality assurance practices were upheld and enhanced.Dr. Linda Meyer, President of Rosebank University College (RIUC), highlighted the importance of Pan-Africanism, emphasizing Africa's need to rely on itself to address the continent's challenges. She explained that the university's expansion beyond South Africa was a reflection of these Pan-African ideals, aiming to provide education to the continent's population witho ut necessitating travel abroad.
