Drivers and pedestrians plying the road in front of the Kumasi Central Market are urging the city authorities to repair the damaged culvert on the road leading to the market, which has been in disrepair since July. The culvert on both sides of the road has collapsed, creating two massive pits that have narrowed the passage, forcing drivers to navigate through a slim remaining space. As a critical route for daily business in Kumasi, the road connects the Kumasi Central Market, Manyhia District Hospital, Adum, and Kejetia.Despite its importance, the road has yet to be repaired since its collapse in July this year, sparking concerns among residents.Vehicles and pedestrians are competing for space on the road, struggling to find a safe passage.'Even before the collapse, traffic here was heavy, but now it's indescribable,' said Musa, a driver at Aboabo Station. Two vehicles cannot pass at the same time; one must wait for the other, and even then, we must manoeuvre our way. It is really affecting us', he t old the Ghana News Agency.Mr Francis Gabrah, the Ashanti Regional Director for the Urban Roads Department, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency that the situation had been brought to their attention.'The culvert is what has been damaged. We are currently building new culverts for the road, and it will be fixed,' he assured.Source: Ghana News Agency
