Anloga MP and SIGRA Collaborate on Aquaculture Project to Empower Women in Fuveme

Anloga: Madam Seyram Sandra Kpedor, the Anloga District Chief Executive (DCE) in the Volta Region, has led a team from the Strengthening Investments in Gender-Responsive Climate Adaptation (SIGRA) to inspect a proposed site for an aquaculture project in the Fuveme community. The initiative aims to empower residents, particularly women, who have been significantly affected by climate change in coastal areas within the district.

According to Ghana News Agency, during the inspection tour, Madam Kpedor emphasized that the aquaculture project is designed to promote climate resilience and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for the people of Fuveme and surrounding communities. She highlighted the focus on women, stating that the initiative aims to address the specific challenges they face in terms of knowledge and skills in climate adaptation.

Madam Kpedor explained that the initiative is a timely response to the needs of the community, providing necessary empowerment. She urged the SIGRA team to expedite the process to quickly benefit the community. She also emphasized the importance of collaboration with the SIGRA team and local authorities, noting that such partnerships could lead to more effective and sustainable development projects.

Mr. Iddrisu Isahaku, the Regional Development Officer of SIGRA, stated that their main objectives include climate adaptation projects, gender responsiveness, and empowerment creation. He added that the goal is to improve the lives of women and their communities, ultimately contributing to more sustainable and resilient development.

Mr. Raphael Agbanavor, the Assembly Member of the area, expressed the significance of the initiative in building stronger hope for women to contribute to climate adaptation efforts. He commended Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor and the SIGRA team for this special project, which will enhance their knowledge on promoting climate resilience in coastal communities.
