AUCRE Celebrates First Graduation with Emphasis on Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Accra: The Adonai University College of Research and Entrepreneurship (AUCRE) has held its maiden graduation ceremony in Ho with a call on graduates and young entrepreneurs to embrace innovation as a critical tool for transforming society and shaping the future.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event was themed 'The Power of Innovation: Shaping the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs,' and saw 45 students graduate from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic year groups in Diploma and Certificate programs. Prof. Raymond Dziwornu, Director of the Office of Doctoral Programmes at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of innovation in today's rapidly evolving landscape.

Prof. Dziwornu highlighted the significant role of innovation in entrepreneurship, noting that it extends beyond creating new products or services to include thinking differently and challenging existing norms. He pointed out that countries like Switzerland, South Korea, and China, with high Global Innovation Index (GII) scores, are experiencing faster economic growth, while Ghana's lower score of 20 indicates a need for more innovation-driven development.

He illustrated the transformative power of innovation through examples such as the shift from traditional mail systems to digital communication and the evolution of transportation services like Uber. Additionally, he shared the inspiring story of Makafui, a former UPSA student who turned Ghana's plastic waste problem into an entrepreneurial venture, creating sustainable school furniture.

Prof. Dziwornu urged graduates to seek innovative solutions and recommended fostering an environment that encourages experimentation and creativity. He advised equipping young entrepreneurs with critical thinking skills, promoting collaboration, and offering support through seed funding and mentorship.

Reverend Dr. Bright Adonai, Acting Rector of AUCRE, reflected on the university's progress since its inception in October 2022 with 91 students. Despite challenges, he reaffirmed the institution's commitment to excellence and called for support from the government and stakeholders.

Prof. John Bright Aheto, Chairman of the AUCRE Governing Council, encouraged the graduates to represent the university with pride and integrity. He acknowledged the support of parents and guardians in helping students reach this milestone.

The Valedictorian, Jonathan Dovonon, inspired his peers to be bold and innovative, expressing confidence in AUCRE's potential to become a leading force in entrepreneurial education in Ghana. The ceremony marked a significant step in AUCRE's journey toward establishing itself as a prominent institution in research and entrepreneurship.
