Anloga: The Anloga District marked Ghana's 68th Independence Day with a scaled-down parade on Thursday morning at the forecourt of the Anloga District Assembly. The event, which featured only five contingents, included participation from the Zion College Brass Band, Zion College Army Cadet, Avete D/A Basic School, and Dzidedi Preparatory School, all based in the Anloga township. The parade lasted for less than two hours.
According to Ghana News Agency, the downsized celebration was in line with President John Dramani Mahama's directive to scale back this year's celebrations as a measure to save costs. The event was organized under the theme 'Reflect, Review, and Reset,' aimed at prompting participants to reflect on Ghana's progress and that of the Anloga District.
Dignitaries present at the event included Mr. Emmanuel Dzakpasu, Anloga District Coordinating Director, and Superintendent Benjamin Samani, Anloga District Police Commander, who took the salute during the ceremony. Also in attendance were Mr. Dominic Yao Dzanado, Anloga District Education Director, Togbi Dala Avege III of Anloga, and staff from the District Assembly and Education Directorate.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Emmanuel Dzakpasu urged residents to embrace the values of true independence. He stated, "True independence means being self-sufficient, creating opportunities for our people, and ensuring that every Ghanaian, regardless of background, has access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities."
Citizens who witnessed the event appreciated the simplicity and time-saving nature of the parade. They noted that it reduced the stress their wards previously endured during longer parades under the sun.
