Government Urged to Support Women’s Leadership for Social Development

Sagnarigu: Government and other stakeholders have been called upon to support women's leadership and participation of rural women in shaping laws, policies, and programmes. The support should touch on all issues that affect their lives including improved food and nutrition security, and better rural livelihoods.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Hanifa Fuseini, Northern Regional Coordinator of the Girls Education Unit at the Ghana Education Service, emphasized the crucial role women play as agents of development during this year's International Women's Day (IWD) celebration. The event, organized by CAMFED Ghana Association (CAMA) at Yilonayili in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region, aimed to educate community members on the benefits of investing in women and girls' education to drive progress and achieve gender equality.

Madam Fuseini highlighted that empowering women is essential not only for the well-being of individuals, families, and rural communities but also for the country's overall productivity. She pointed out that early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and school drop-out are major challenges, particularly in remote areas, which have numerous negative impacts on women's empowerment.

She urged parents to take responsibility for their children's welfare to help them become responsible leaders capable of supporting their communities' development.

Mr. Alhassan Imoro, Social Welfare Officer at Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly, noted that women in rural areas require training to acquire skills for pursuing new livelihoods and adopting technology suited to their needs.
