Kyiv: At least five people were killed and 10 were injured in the latest Russian airstrikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Sunday.
According to Ghana News Agency, Russia employed more than 50 missiles and cruise missiles, as well as around 500 drones, in a coordinated attack on the country. Authorities reported that four of the fatalities occurred in the Lviv region, located in western Ukraine near the Polish border.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha revealed that a family of four, including a girl, was among those killed, in a post on X. He emphasized the need for stronger trans-Atlantic pressure on Russia to halt the attacks. Sybiha also noted that purchasing energy from Russia contributes to financing crimes against Ukraine.
Several regions, including Zaporizhzhya, Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, Odessa, and Kherson, were affected, with Russia targeting critical infrastructure. Rescue and reconstruction efforts are currently underway in various locations.
Zelensky highlighted the need for enhanced protection and expedited implementation of defense agreements, particularly in air defense, to neutralize the air assaults. He suggested that achieving a ceasefire in the skies could lead to genuine diplomatic efforts. Zelensky urged the United States and Europe to take action to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease the attacks.
