Techiman: The Deputy Chairperson in-charge of Operations at the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Samuel Asare, has made an appeal to the youth, urging them to cherish and value their lives and to act as ambassadors of peace as the nation approaches the December 7 polls. He emphasized the importance of not allowing themselves to be used as instruments of political violence during the upcoming 2024 general election.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Asare highlighted that no country could achieve development without peace, and warned that the future of the youth would be compromised if they allowed politicians to manipulate them into creating disturbances and undermining the nation's current peace. He addressed these issues during a sensitization session with the students of Techiman Valley View University, as part of the European Union-funded 'Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism' program carried out by the commission.Mr. Asare advised the youth to stay vigilant and help prevent extremist groups from infiltrating the country, pointing out the growing prevalence of violent extremism in the sub-region. He cautioned them against being tempted by money or gifts to incite political tensions and violence.Furthermore, Mr. Asare urged the electorate to return home after casting their votes and to safeguard their voter identification cards. Reinforcing this message, Reverend Prince Owusu Essekou, the Bono East Regional Chairman of the National Peace Council, emphasized the importance of the youth viewing themselves as future leaders and focusing on building productive lives. He also encouraged everyone to remain law-abiding and contribute to the maintenance and building of national peace.
