WAEC Releases 2025 BECE Provisional Results: 177 Candidates’ Results Cancelled

Accra: The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the provisional results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) School candidates, with the entire results of 177 candidates being cancelled.

According to Ghana News Agency, WAEC has also cancelled the subject results of 718 candidates and withheld the subject results of 1,240 candidates. Additionally, the entire results of 93 candidates have been withheld. These actions were taken following investigations into irregularities detected during the examination and the marking of scripts. The decisions were sanctioned at the 36th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners Appointment Committee for the BECE, 2025, held on August 15.

Furthermore, the subject results of candidates from 119 schools have been cancelled, and those from 87 schools have been withheld for additional scrutiny. The withheld results may either be cancelled or released following the outcome of further investigations by September 6, 2025. WAEC plans to dispatch the results to the respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education, and candidates can also access them online via the Council's official website.

Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld are advised to visit the Council's website for detailed information on the reasons and the possible next steps. Heads of schools can also access this information using their results listing logins. WAEC has cautioned all stakeholders to be vigilant against fraudsters promising to upgrade results for a fee, emphasizing that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated.

The release of the examination results involved 603,328 candidates, including 297,520 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 participating schools. The cohort included 72 candidates with visual impairments, 239 with hearing impairments, and 161 with other test accommodation needs. The examination took place across 2,237 centers, with 2,526 candidates recorded as absent. WAEC expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, and examiners for their contributions to the successful conduct and release of the examination results.
