Sunyani: Dr Freda Prempeh, the Founder of the Ultimate Women Foundation, at the weekend, called for the promotion of creative artistic talents of women and girls, as the world marks the 2025 International Women's Day (IWD). The foundation seeks to encourage and motivate indigenous and vulnerable women and girls to know their worth and empower them to contribute to their communities and society at large.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Prempeh, in an interview in Sunyani, urged the nation to tackle stereotypes and biases while celebrating the successes of women. The global theme for this year's IWD, celebrated on March 8, is 'For all Women and Girls: The Rights, Equality and Empowerment', highlighting the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women worldwide.
The annual celebration sees impactful organizations and groups delivering strategies, resources, and activities that accelerate action for women and girls' empowerment. Dr Prempeh emphasized the necessity of recruiting, retaining, and developing diverse talents, supporting women and girls in leadership roles, decision-making, and businesses to contribute to meaningful development.
Dr Prempeh also stressed the importance of designing infrastructure that meets the needs of women and girls, helping them make informed health decisions, and involving them in sustainable agriculture, food security, quality education, and sports. She believes these measures will create a better society and inspire women to pursue higher roles in politics and governance.
She highlighted the significant roles of women as caregivers, protectors, friends, and mentors. Despite their contributions to holistic development, Dr Prempeh lamented that many women and girls still endure severe human rights abuses, urging for radical measures to protect their rights in society.
