Accra: Tullow Ghana and its partners have resumed drilling activities in the Jubilee Field, signalling renewed investment and confidence in Ghana's oil and gas industry. The new drilling campaign, which commenced this May, forms part of a two-year programme aimed at increasing oil production and enhancing operational efficiency at one of West Africa's key offshore fields.
According to Ghana News Agency, an official press release issued by Tullow Ghana highlighted that this follows the successful conclusion of the company's previous four-year drilling effort in December 2024. That campaign delivered 18 new wells six months ahead of schedule and below budget, earning commendation for its efficiency, strong safety performance, and prudent cost management.
The latest campaign will be implemented in phases, starting this month with further activities planned for November and into 2026. 'Tullow aims to build on its earlier achievements by taking drilling management standards to even greater heights,' the release stated.
Speaking on the development, Mr Jean-M©dard Madama, Managing Director of Tullow Ghana, described the restart as a 'significant milestone.' He emphasized that the restart of drilling reflects another milestone in their journey in Ghana and shows their confidence in the country's resource base. Despite the Jubilee Field being in a mature production phase, it remains a strategic source of output and revenue for the energy sector.
The new drilling programme is expected to unlock further value and sustain production. Ahead of the campaign, Tullow successfully completed a 16-day maintenance exercise at the Jubilee Field, aimed at upgrading operations and reducing operational risks as drilling resumed.
