Accra: The Minister for Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has officially launched Ghana's maiden Transport and Logistics Fair 2025, describing it as a groundbreaking national platform to reposition the sector as the backbone of Ghana's socio-economic growth.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Minister emphasized that the Fair is a bold national statement and a deliberate convergence of innovation, investment, and inclusive dialogue to address longstanding inefficiencies in the sector. He highlighted the critical role of transportation in connecting farms to markets, ports to the world, and people to opportunities and jobs, while pointing out the inefficiencies that have constrained national development efforts.
Mr. Nikpe outlined the government's reform agenda under President John Dramani Mahama, focusing on modernizing rail, maritime, and aviation infrastructure to improve connectivity and reduce logistics costs. The agenda also includes digitalizing ports and customs operations for enhanced transparency, expanding multimodal transport networks, and strengthening regulatory frameworks to ensure safety and professionalism across all transport modes.
The Fair, scheduled for October 22-24 at the Accra Trade Fair Centre, aims to be more than an exhibition; it will serve as a platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration among policymakers, private sector players, academia, development partners, and the public. The theme, 'Resetting Ghana's Transport Sector for Improved Connectivity, Innovation, and Investment,' underscores the country's commitment to building a modern, resilient, and inclusive transport system.
Mr. Nikpe stressed Ghana's strategic position to become a transport hub for West Africa under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), urging media support for the Fair as a movement toward a more connected and competitive Ghana.
The launch event also featured remarks from private sector partners leading the initiative. Dr. Chief Nat Nsorko of Digital Eye Ltd highlighted the Fair's goal to create an enabling environment for dialogue and policy reform between government and private sector actors. Mrs. Nana-Hemaa Adjoa Awindor noted that the Fair would include exhibitions, seminars, and interactive experiences, offering a direct engagement platform for stakeholders.
The launch was attended by key agencies under the Transport Ministry, the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), and other stakeholders.
